Viva la France!

Today, in honor of Bastille Day in France, Kent, Karen and I decided to go to LaChatelaine for lunch. Now, their website said there'd be some good French celebrating going on on the patio today. But when we arrived for lunch, there was no celebrating?? We thought maybe the party was inside, so in we went and Karen annouced 'Viva la France!'. The workers inside just sort of stared at us like we were crazy American tourists in Paris. So we explained that today is Bastille Day in France - the great French national holiday. (From what I've read though, Bastille Day was good if you were poor, not so good if you were part of the aristocracy...) They looked at us with a surprised look and said, 'Hey, Cool!'

The celebratory food was waiting for us, the famous croque monsieur, Quiche Lorraine, Chicken with mushrooms, Brikette (Spinach & Artichoke à la Crême filled in a hand made puff-pastry), French onion soup, and eclair chocolat. To drink? Why, Le Coke Diet of course. And to really drive home that American in Paris experience, everything was priced so high we thought they were charging us in Euros!

Still, the food was excellent and the weather made the patio outstanding (although a little live entertainment would've really set the mood). We just enjoyed the day and talked about all of the things we like about France: Cheese, Wine, Champagne, French Fries, French Toast, French Kissing, French Bread and, of course, the Jacques Chirac martini at Bon Vie.
So today we say, !Viva la France!
