Crackberries are not for everyone

We've been very busy at work this week with integration testing for our new billing system. Spent a couple of long evenings working from the kitchen table running processes. Kent is doing the bulk of the work, and I just try not to get in the way.

Even with all of the work stuff, I finally made it to the Verizon store to get my new Blackberry Curve. I was so excited to be joining the ranks of those who possess the electronic equivalent of purple kool-aid! Finally, I would know the wonder that is the BlackBerry! My work was kind enough to give me an enterprise license so I could sync up my email, calendar and contacts. The setup was easy and everything went really well. I was having fun with the trackball and all the cool apps...then, I started adding my home and condo email accounts and things went south fast.

All the emails on BlackBerry route through some form of a BlackBerry server. Now, if you're after a device to manage work email, or one primary account like Yahoo or Gmail, then this is probably your device. I mean, work email was so fast it hit the device before it hit my inbox! The other pop email accounts I use for home, condo assn., etc. were super SLOW! And, all messages hit one folder. Now, before all you crackheads jump my case, I know you can add separate folders for each extra email account. That still doesn't separate them from the main folder. Plus, I didn't really have control over when the device connected to get mail. One thing I liked about my Q was that I could turn off work email after 7 PM, and shut them all off when I'm travelling on vacation. I can check them when I want, or just ignore them until I get back. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and decided it had to go back. It was a sad, sad moment. Those of you who know my techie gadget side will understand...

So, back to Verizon I went. Explained my problem, and ended up getting a new Motorola Q9c. Since I already have a Q, I was pretty familiar with it and was up an running very quickly. I must say, it has quite a few enhancements over my original Q and I am pretty happy with the upgrade.

Still, I am bummed that I had to set the purple kool-aid down and leave the cool company of all the BlackBerry users at the smart phone party.

(on a side note, Susan gets to continue to hang with the in crowd and may soon switch to a BB World Edition. This BB will work on six continents! Now that is just cool.)

(This post sent from my most cool new Motorola Q9c!)
