Not as easy as it looks in the movies...
When I got home last night, I managed to lock myself on the patio between our garage and our house. No keys to get into the house, no keys to get into the garage. Instantly, my brain began developing 'solutions'.
Brain: 'Let's break the glass in the back door!'
Me: 'Terrible idea...we'll set off the alarm, probably cut our self...and then have to replace a $1200 door. Nope, bad idea"
Brain: 'OK, see your point. Let's kick in the garage door!'
Me: 'Hmmm....That could work. Wait, no, too much damage. Bad idea'
Brain: 'We could call James, or the Folks to come open the garage door!'
Me: 'Call someone for help?! I don't think so. Then people would know what a dumb thing we've done.'
Brain: 'We could jump the fence!'
Me: 'Hey, now that might work'
Brain: 'Sure it could, people do it in the movies all the time!'
Me: 'Excellent plan, way to go brain! So, I pulled a chair over to the fence and launched myself over. Go ahead, get the visual... Now, brain and I really never gave any thought to the landing, or the large electric box near the fence. Over I went, failed to stick the landing, fell backwards into the electric box with a terrific thud, twisting my neck. I'm pretty sure no one was watching as I threw myself over the fence. Just in case though, I got up like an Olympic champion who failed to stick a landing and lost the gold, walked with great poise and dignity to the garage door, entered my code, and retrieved my keys.
By the time I got into the house, my neck was really starting to hurt. I grabbed ice packs and hit the couch. It is still sore today and really quite stiff. And, I think one of my eyes is crooked. I guess I should be thankful I didn't break anything.
Looking back on it today, I'm not sure what went wrong. It seemed like such a good idea at the time.
