Coming to America

Pope Benedict XVI, arrives in the US today. This pope was elected on my birthday 3 years ago. I remember sitting in Max & Erma's bar when the announcement was made...Habemus Papem. Everyone had a pre-conceived notion about Joseph Ratzinger and what kind of Pope he would be. I remember thinking, 'Hey, how about we give the man a pass and see what his pontificate brings'. Among other things B16 has encouraged religious dialogue, tolerance, and peace. Not a bad message and three things this world desperately needs. It turns out, even at 81, this is not a 'caretaker' Pope. I am excited for his visit, and hold il papa in a place of respect and affection. He has my prayers for a successful visit.
